Skinner City Farm functions as an educational resource for Lane County. The youth-oriented programs offered by the organization highlight the importance of sustainable living and utilize historic farmland adjacent to downtown Eugene. In 2007 designBridge was contacted to develop the design for new facilities that would further the mission statement of the farm. Working from established parameters and suggested program students designed a food preservation barn that would house a public cannery and support spaces. This cannery would serve existing community plots and a new demonstration garden, orchard and outdoor festival space. Teams generated four design proposals during the design studio. Following this, teams presented to community members and Skinner City Farm stakeholders and materials were handed off for the purposes of fundraising.
